An avid sailor, Joseph K. Waltenbaugh first became enamored with water sports when he learned to windsurf in 1980. He then windsurfed extensively in his home area and on Lake Erie, the beaches of southwest Florida, the Caribbean, and along the Atlantic coast from New Jersey to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

In his book, Legend: An OBX Novel, he brings to lie the characters he met along the way to crate a summer beach tale of suspense and danger in a most unlikely setting.
